Unboxing the AeroGarden Harvest - First Looks
At this point, the AeroGarden Harvest is out of the box and we’ve removed the protective filler. We’re left with the AeroGarden Harvest in a transparent plastic bag and the power supply is in a cardboard box. Here are the first impressions and observations.
Box Contents Overview
The AeroGarden Harvest, once removed from the protective packaging, is in a clear plastic bag.
A small box houses the power adapter. The power supply is easily extracted from the box.
Skip to The Seed Pods page to read about the box containing the seed pods now, or just keep clicking the Next Page buttons until you come to it.
First Impressions of AeroGarden Harvest
The AeroGarden Harvest, once removed from the protective packaging, is surprisingly lightweight. The device is in a clear plastic bag. The entire device is not larger than a one-foot square tile.
After removing the plastic wrapping, the Harvest appears almost ready to run. Two pieces of heavy-duty tape secure the tray to the tub and another secures the water cap to the tray. The tape is easily removed.
With the tape removed, the AeroGarden Harvest is basically ready to be filled with water and seeds, plugged in and run.
Power Supply
The AeroGarden Harvest power supply has two noteworthy properties. First, the blades are turned ninety degrees from a typical power supply. Second, the cord for the power supply is approximately six feet long.
The generously long cord on the power supply gives you tremendous flexibility in positioning your AeroGarden Harvest. You may have enough extra cord to run it along a hidden channel to keep your counter looking neat and tidy.
The sideways orientation of the AeroGarden Harvest power plug certainly eases the tight access to a wall outlet. You have room to add all but the biggest power brick to this wall socket.
The power plug for your second AeroGarden will fit nicely. When you get your third AeroGarden and you need to move to a power strip, remember the orientation on these plugs is turned. Get a power strip with the sockets turned sideways as well, or this plug will block three sockets.
The power supply that comes with the AeroGarden Harvest shows an input of 100-240VAC 50/60Hz for 0.8A. The output is rated as 12V, 2.5A.
You could run the AeroGarden Harvest off a car power plug or 12V DC system. Don’t assume all hydroponic growing systems run on 12V DC, even other AeroGarden devices. If being able to run off a 12V system is important to you, check before you buy.
Key Takeaways
The First Looks of the AeroGarden Harvest have been very informative. The power supply in particular is quite interesting. It seems just about everything on the Harvest has been well-thought-out, as will become more apparent in the next article in this series, The Teardown.
